Michael Kozien
born in Chicago, Illinois, 1971, is an interdisciplinary artist who merges video, sound, photography, painting and the web to create installations that spotlight the misrepresentation of human value and purpose as filtered through contemporary media sources. Recently his work has been exhibited at Art in General, NYC, the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art, Lake Worth, FL, the Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento, CA and a two-person exhibition with Ben Dallas at the College ofLake County, Grayslake, IL. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions at venues nationally, including Thread-Waxing Space, NYC and R.B. Stevenson Gallery, San Diego, CA. Projects and screenings include a video performance at FUN, NYC, Remote Lounge, NYC and the Sacramento Festival of Cinema 2002. Michael holds a BFA in painting from Southern Illinois University and an MFA in electronic media from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His awards and honors include being a 1995 recipient of the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award. Michael also is a contributor to Wolfgang Staehle’s New York based thing.net where he will curate the online video exhibit, Nostalgia: Good Riddance in 2003. Michael lives and works in Chicago.

[...] For this exhibition artist Barbara Hashimoto has created a grouping of three large-scaled sculptural installations from the shredded junk mail and presents historical work from The Project. She also premieres White Trash, an installation incorporating the white paper used and discarded by BauerLatoza Studio during the daily operations of the business. This paper, as with her shreds of junk mail, will eventually be recycled into cast sculptural pieces.
