For this year’s festival we are looking for artists from the realms of video installation, computer art and the demoscene. The works will be exhibited from November 12th to 19th, 2008, at the same time as the “International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg”. The Tri Continental began in Latin America in 2002, in Africa in 2003 and in Asia in 2004, and has since become the primary platform for human rights cinema from the three continents that form part of the global South.

After a successful 2008 season with 30 marvellous short films and countless lovely international guests at our event, it is time to prepare for EMERGEANDSEE 2009.
The festival will take place in February 2009, at our traditional home, the Berlin cinema Babylon:Mitte. We will again show the most thrilling short film art by filmmakers from all over the world. This year, we have established a new highlight: The “East-West” Special Competition, for films centered around this topic. And, of course, we still have our open Main Competition.

Birth Video
Building on the conceptual foundations brought forth through the works of psychologist Jacques Lacan and artist/writer Mary Kelly this project considers the current state of birth (reception and projection) in its captured form. Afterbirth is a proposed multi-channel, projected video installation. Live birth video will be sourced and edited from submissions received through an open call posted through internet communities.

The European Media Art Network provides residencies in England, Germany, Bulgaria and the Netherlands for European artists
With support of the European Union - Culture 2007-2013 programme the newly established European Media Art Network will host 16 European Media Artists in Residence Exchanges within 2008 and 2009 and organise a final exhibition in 2009 in Halle (Saale) additional to individual presentations.
