currents 2010
will open June 17, coinciding with SITE Santa Fe’s Eighth International Biennial Exhibition, “The Dissolve”. While SITE Santa Fe’s exhibit will focus on video art and its integration of other media, the currents 2010 exhibition is designed to broaden the conversation about the current trends in experimental video art.

currents 2010is co-sponsored by Parallel Studios, El Museo Cultural, Zane Bennett Contemporary Art, and SITE Santa Fe. The exhibit will be located at El Museo Cultural across the street from SITE Santa Fe.

The Exhibition

The currents 2010exhibit will be housed in El Museo Cultural’s 12,000 sq. ft warehouse. The majority of the space will be devoted to 8 to 12 video installations. A separate 1,000 sq. ft screening room will be used for the single channel video programs, presentations and performances.

Artists are invited to submit work in either or both of two categories:

Video Installation
Single Channel Video Art.
Notification of acceptance will be made by email on March 15, 2010.

Guidelines

Video Installation Component

Video installation is a rarely seen genre that uses sculptural or constructed environments which incorporate video to create an immersive or interactive space.

Submissions in this category must include and adhere to the following:

Samples - DVD or URL showing examples/documentation of relevant work/previous installations.

CV and Bio
Project design
written description
floor plan
approximate length of loop
A completed application

Application fee ($15). Check or money order made out to Parallel Studios
Submission packets must be postmarked by February 23, 2010
Single Channel Video Art

The single channel video screenings will consist of several programs presented throughout the day on a fixed schedule and will include a wide variety of work from local, regional, national and international artists. There will be a special section for teen and young adult work.

Submissions in this category must include and adhere to the following:

Title of each piece submitted. Up to 3 pieces will be considered.
All pieces must be no longer than 7 minutes each.
DVD showing work submitted for consideration
CV and Bio
A completed application
Application fee ($15). Check or money order made out to Parallel Studios
Submission packets must be postmarked by February 23, 2010
